The Whoopie Pie Bar from Whoopie Bakery
At Whoopie Bakery, we specialize in a custom, build-your-own Whoopie Pie Bar that’s unlike anything you’ve ever had.
What is a Whoopie Pie Bar?
Glad you asked! It’s a pretty simple concept, actually. Think Chipotle, only instead of building your own delicious burrito, you’re building your own delicious Whoopie Pie. Here’s how it works.
Step 1 – Choose Your Bottom Whoopie Pie Cake
This might be one of the hardest decisions you make in your life, but the good thing is that it’s impossible to get it wrong. Someone once said that if they had to rank each cake 1 to 5, they would rank them all as #1. The great thing is that later in the Whoopie Pie Bar you can choose a different flavor for the top of your Whoopie Pie, giving you some pretty epic flavor combination choices.
Here are the choices:
Chocolate Cake – This is the classic, gold standard. We’ve found that people often pick it for their first Whoopie Pie since they’re familiar with it, and then when they come back for more they’ll branch out to something more unique. But there’s a reason it’s so popular. Our Chocolate Whoopie Pies are made with rich, dark chocolate and are think, dense, and moist. There’s nothing “light” about them, and are even heavier than a typical Whoopie Pie. We use the same recipe for our chocolate cakes, which always leave people asking for more.
Our suggestion: Go full chocolate. Chocolate Cake for the top and bottom, Chocolate Glaze, Mini Chocolate Chips, and Chocolate Filling.
Vanilla Cake – The Vanilla Cake Whoopie Pie is fantastic on its own, but it’s also one of the most versatile. You can pair it with any other cake and add any other topping or glaze and it will taste great. It’s another popular one in the Whoopie Pie Bar due to it’s ability to play well with others. Our Vanilla Cake Whoopie Pies reminiscent of a soft sugar cookie and are perfect to add some sweetness.
Our suggestion: Try “The Tuxedo” which is a Chocolate Cake Bottom, Vanilla Glaze, Maraschino Cherries, Chocolate Filling, and Vanilla Top Cake.
Pumpkin Cake – The Pumpkin Cake is a Whoopie Bakery favorite, and one of the reasons we started doing all of this in the first place. There’s no way to describe it… you just have to try it for yourself! It pairs well with the Gingerbread and is great with the Cream Cheese or Vanilla Filling. It’s also great to just it plain! Whenever we have extra, they don’t last very long.
Our suggestion: Pumpkin Cake Bottom, Caramel Glaze, Toasted Pecans or Toasted Coconut, Cream Cheese Filling, and Gingerbread Top Cake.
Gingerbread Cake – The Gingerbread Cake Whoopie Pie has been described as tasting like Christmas morning, and it’s tough to describe it any other way. It’s another that’s thick, moist, and full of flavor. The spices in it pair well with the Cinnamon Coffee filling and anything chocolate.
Our suggestion: Gingerbread Bottom Cake, Vanilla Glaze, Sprinkles, Cinnamon Coffee Filling, and Gingerbread Top Cake.
Orange Cake – The Orange Cake Whoopie Pie is another that you can do a lot with in the Whoopie Pie Par. It’s flavored with real orange peel and gives your Whoopie Pie a nice citrus flavor. It’s also the absolute best one to use our Pineapple Dream filling for. If you don’t want to go all out with the fruit, try it with chocolate everything. Or go mix it with vanilla for a creamsicle style.
Our suggestion: Try a “Spring Break” with Orange Cake Bottom, Vanilla Glaze, Maraschino Cherries, Roasted Coconut, Pineapple Filling, Vanilla Top Cake
Whew, you made your first choice in the Whoopie Pie Bar! Now on to the fun stuff:
Step 2 – Choose Your Glaze
If you’re used to eating traditional Whoopie Pies that just have cake/filling/cake, this is what begins to set ours apart, and where the fun begins with building your own Whoopie Pie. The Glaze is an essential part and is the “glue” that holds it all together. We put just the right amount on where you’ll be able to get the true taste that mixes well with the other elements, but it won’t be overwhelming.
Here are your choices for your glaze:
Chocolate Glaze – You can’t go wrong with the Chocolate Glaze. Whether it’s adding even more chocolate to an already Chocolate Whoop, or giving another cake a hint of flavor, it’s always a great choice. You’ll be amazed at how adding a little bit of Chocolate Glaze can make your Whoopie Pie “pop.” We suggest trying it with Orange and Vanilla Cakes.
Vanilla Glaze – This is another one that can pair with just about everything. The Vanilla Glaze adds a little more sweetness and blends the best with all of the topping and filling choices. We can’t think of a single thing it wouldn’t fit perfectly with. We suggest trying it with any combination of Pumpkin and Gingerbread.
Caramel Glaze – Like all of these Glazes, we make the Caramel from scratch, which gives it that rich, homemade flavor. The Carmael is the strongest of the three, but still won’t take over the other flavors. We suggest trying it with the Chocolate or Pumpkin.
You’ve got your Bottom Cake and your Glaze… time for the Toppings!
Step 3 – Choose Your Toppings
Another thing that sets Whoopie Bakery’s Whoopie Pies apart from the rest is the ability to add your own toppings! This is where people have a lot of fun and get creative, choosing the perfect topping to go on their masterpiece. These toppings may change, but here are our standards:
Crushed Oreos – By far the most popular Topping. There’s just something about Crushed Oreos that makes everything better.
Maraschino Cherries – Great with the Orange Cake, Vanilla Cake, or Pineapple Dream Filling.
Mini Chocolate Chips – Another popular choice that’s great on anything.
Pretzels – Add a bit of “crunch” to your Whoopie Pie!
Chocolate-Covered Coffee Beans – Our second most popular Topping. Mix this with the Cinnamon Coffee Filling for pure goodness.
Crushed Peppermint – A favorite around the holidays with Chocolate Everything.
Toasted Pecans – Try these with Pumpkin, Gingerbread, or just about anything else.
Toasted Coconut – Go tropical by adding Toasted Coconut to the Orange Cake and Pineapple Dream Filling. Or go for the White Out by mixing it with Vanilla Cakes/Glaze/Filling.
Rainbow Sprinkles – You can put Rainbow Sprinkles on anything and it makes it 150% better.
Two choices left! Now it’s time for…
Step 4 – Choose Your Filling
You’ve got your Bottom Cake, Glaze, and Toppings… now it’s time for another crucial choice of what Filling to pick when building your own Whoopie Pie. Here are your options:
Chocolate – A rich, creamy Chocolate Filling will make you come back for seconds every time.
Vanilla – Like tradition? Go with the standard Vanilla Filling, which is good in absolutely every Whoopie Pie combination.
Cinnamon Coffee – If you’re a coffee lover, you’ll go crazy for our Cinnamon Coffee Filling. Try it with anything chocolate.
Cream Cheese – A smooth, Cream Cheese Filling pairs best with Gingerbread and Pumpkin, but works well with anything else too.
Pineapple Dream – If you’re looking for something “outside of the box” then try our Pineapple Dream Filling to give your Whoopie Pie a touch of tropical fruit.
One more choice, and it’s an easy one.
Step 5 – Choose Your Top Whoopie Pie Cake
Time to decide how to top it off! As a reminder, your choices for the cakes are Chocolate, Vanilla, Pumpkin, Gingerbread, and Orange.
